Scientific Meeting Awards Program For 2010
Recognition of New Investigators
The Lymn Foundation currently is looking for applications from conference organizers in order to recognize significant contributions by young investigators. (Application procedures below.) The Lymn Foundation will provide funds for individual awards to be presented to individuals at the meeting. The basis of award will be presentation of an outstanding poster that provides new insight into understanding biological or disease processes of skeletal muscle.
Young investigators who receive an award must be the first author and present the poster at the meeting. In the case of multiple authors, the sponsor of the work must attest that the young investigator is the principal force involved in the work. Recipients of awards must qualify under the Foundation's definition of young investigator.
The Foundation will limit its grant to meetings that have already obtained the majority of their funding, show promise of developing cutting-edge advancements in the field of muscle biology, and bring together eminent scientists. In selecting a conference, the Foundation will look to the meeting description and the credentials of the presenters.
Application Procedure
To apply, the meeting organizers will submit an application, including a list of speakers, to the Foundation. The application will describe:
1. the content and purposes of the meeting.
2. the selection of a committee to choose awardees from the posters displayed at the meeting.
3. the committee's process to judge and select young investigators to be recipients of the award(s).
Applications should be submitted at least four months before the scheduled conference, on one of the following dates: February 22, 2010; July 9, 2010; and November 22, 2010.
TERMS
Grants through this program will provide funds for up to two awards for a publicly announced conference that provides for presentation of unsolicited posters. Each award will be $500.
Conditions
Though not required at the time of application, the organizers must show evidence of other grant support of the meeting before a grant is made. This may be demonstrated by submitting letters of awards and copies of reviews for successful requests for conference grants from the National Institutes of Health or similar funding agencies as soon as they are received.
